LEARN TO USE CLAY IN A COMPLETELY  DIFFERENT WAY

PRINTING FROM CLAY

Clayprinting is an innovative and unique printing process developed by Mitch Lyons. Most people don't understand what a clay monoprint is until they actually see it.

Clay, as it is typically used, creates three-dimensional objects that require firing. This art form takes it in another direction. Essentially, it's the process of creating a two-dimensional piece of art (a print) from a slab of clay that has had colored slips and textures added to it.

The technique is remarkably simple. No clay or printmaking experience is needed to create stunning and sophisticated clay monoprints.  Even if you think you have no artistic ability, you'll be successful using this art form.

The mission of the clayprinting workshops offered here is to continue Mitch's legacy.  Workshops are available at the studio or one of the local art centers offering it.

MITCH LYONS STUDIO

Come enjoy a hands-on workshop at Mitch Lyons Studio where you'll experience Mitch's unique clayprinting process - an art form, using clay to create two-dimensional prints. You'll learn the entire process in our warm and friendly environment and leave with clay monoprints of your own.

We'll be working on the same 6' x 6' clay slab Mitch printed from for over fifty years. Surrounded by his artwork, you'll be fully immersed in the studio's creative atmosphere. No experience with clay or printmaking is necessary.

LOCAL ART CENTERS

These one-day clayprinting workshops are a great introduction to Mitch's printmaking process. You'll be working from your own 12" x 12" clay slab and learning everything you need to create your own monoprints.

All tools and materials will be provided, but you're welcome to bring any of your own textures, stencils, etc., as well. Classes run from 10:00-3:00 and vary in cost according to each art center.

Bring an apron or wear clothes you aren't worried about staining - if you're anything like me, this is important!

SHARED EXPERIENCES, SPECIAL MEMORIES

Gather a group of friends or family for a private workshop at Mitch Lyons Studio. In the past, we've had a number of cross-generational workshops - a family of five, a father and daughter, a group of artists and an annual friend get-together. The fee of $150 per person covers all materials. We'll find a date that works for everyone.

ESSENTIAL ITEMS

PET COMMISSIONS

Our pets hold a special place in our hearts. The  unconditional love they give us is like nothing else in our lives. They make a house a home.

Instead of another photograph, immortalize your dog or cat in a piece of original art. Your pet's image will be created and mounted on a clay monoprint with a word using Scrabble tile (optional). Send me a photo and I'll do the rest!

JAY:  Meredith is a master of the craft and continues to champion the process her husband created and introduced to the world in the 1970s. She was an incredible teacher and gracious host. Her instruction and encouragement were the perfect combo I needed to feel comfortable and confident moving forward as a newbie!
